Happy 18th Birthday Google! Welcome to Adulthood

Google clocks 18. It is an adult. Woohoo!!!. Its been an amazing childhood of changing lives for Google. Google has grown to be an internet giant.

Google celebrates this day with an animated doodle on their home page. You see a blue ‘G’ blowing up a balloon then he(the blue ‘G’) twists the balloon to form ‘oogle’. The blue ‘G’ and the ‘oogle’ form Google then float away amidst balloons and streamers.

 

 

What we are not so sure about is Google’s exact birth day.

Google was incorporated on September 4, 1998 so that seems like the logical day to be used. However Google has celebrated its birthday on four different dates over the years.

Most of the years it celebrated on September 27. There is no obvious reason why Google has picked this day to celebrate its birthday and maybe it is sticking with September 27 because that was the first time it celebrated its birthday with a doodle in 2002.

In fact, most years you have a Google Doodle up on 27 September.

In 2013, on Google’s 15th birthday, Google hinted in a post about the confusion concerning its birthday. “When’s Google’s birthday? I’m not sure even we know – we’ve celebrated on September 7th, 8th, 26th, and, most recently the 27th.”

It is not pleasing to the ears that a company whose mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful does not know its own birth date. But we forgive Google because it  is Google.
