Twitter Now Allows You See When Your DM Has Been Read
Twitter’s Direct Messages show read receipts
Twitter has added a new feature to its Direct Messaging(DM). Your Twitter messages now show read receipts. A blue check mark next to a message’s time stamp shows when a message has been read.
You also get to see when someone is typing a response. So you not only have read receipts but you also have typing indicators. This feature brings to mind messaging apps like WhatsApp, maybe Twitter is considering being a stand alone app in the future.

For those who do not reply DM’s and don’t want people to see that we have read them and didn’t reply, Twitter left the turn off button for us.
To turn off the feature go to your profile ___Settings ___Security and Privacy .
Uncheck the box beside Send/Receive Read Receipts to turn it off.
Once turned off you will not be able to see read receipts from other people.
Links in direct messages now have previews. This is similar to the previews that tweets already have. When a link is sent through a DM, a preview is automatically generated so that the receiver has a good idea of what the link is about. That way the receiver can decide if he wants to go ahead and open the link or not.
